As early as the 2006 vintage, the American wine expert robert parker noted "the brilliant red and white wines of château smith-haut-laffite, attributable to the passion and hard work of their perfectionist owners florence and daniel cathiard since 1990". For the 2010 vintage, he gives the red wine a score of 98+: "an extraordinary performance once again from the Cathiard family. This wine illustrates what a remarkable nose is, with subtle smoky notes interwoven with spring flowers, crème de cassis, blueberry liqueur and woody spices". The château was built in the 18th century by the Scotsman georges smith, who attached his name to the best parcel of his vineyard called haut-laffite, whose wines he exported to england. Later taken over by mr. Duffour-dubergier, mayor of bordeaux for six years in the mid-19th century, the château underwent a rejuvenation program that earned it the ministerial gold medal for "best-kept vineyard in the department" in 1876. After being bought by the Bremen trading house, château smith-haut-laffite was confiscated by the state as German property during the First World War. After a long period of sequestration, the property was acquired in 1958 by the Bordeaux wine merchant Louis Eschenauer. Appearance

Golden yellow, clear and brilliant, with green highlights.

Aroma

Notes of citrus and accacia, the nose is reminiscent of white-fleshed fruit. There are hints of hazelnut and toast.
