The winemaker

To understand the origins of the estate, we return to the 1980s with Baron Eutrope de Chasteigner de La Rocheposay. After battling with Napoleon, the Baron, future mayor of Angoulême and holder of the Legion of Honor, owned the estate until 1854. He decided to build a Haussman-style mansion in red brick and stone. This distinctive style makes the house instantly recognizable.

The vineyard is ploughed and no weedkillers are used. The vines are cultivated using sustainable methods. The vines are pruned in double guyot to spread out the bunches. The grapes are harvested either by hand or by machine, depending on the plot. Vinification takes place in the 19th-century concrete vat room. Ageing then takes place in concrete vats or in our new barrel cellar, depending on the cuvée.

The Bordeaux vineyards comprise 57 appellations d'origine contrôlée. Château Bozelle is located on the right bank, in the heart of the Libourne region, which includes the prestigious Pomerol and Saint-Emilion appellations. The terroir is composed of clay and limestone. The grape varieties are Merlot (80%), the king of Libourne, Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), Cabernet Franc and Malbec. This terroir lends density and depth to Château Bozelle's red wines.
