The winemaker

The History of Domaine Vico

Domaine Vico was founded by Jean Vico in 1901. He chose this terroir in central Corsica for its unique geological and climatic combination. With an extremely varied, rugged and tormented terroir, as well as very contrasting weather, Domaine Vico has been producing very specific vintages since its inception.

In 1987, the Vico family sold the estate. It is now owned by François Acquaviva, Jean-Marc and Manu Venturi.

The Domaine Vico vineyard

The Domaine Vico vineyard covers 49 hectares, in the center of Corsica at altitudes between 260 and 360 meters. The vineyards are overlooked by peaks reaching 2,000 meters in altitude. The soil is composed of schists, basalts, granites and rolled pebbles.

The vineyard of Domaine Vico covers 36 hectares planted in red and 13 hectares in white. It is composed for the red grape varieties of Sciacarellu (45%), Nielluciu (30%), Syrah (10%), Grenache Noir (10%) and Carcaghjolu Neru (5%); for the white grape varieties of Malvasia (70%), Muscat à petits grains blancs (10%), Biancu Gentile (10%), as well as various white grape varieties for the last 10%.

The average age of the vines is 38 years. The average production of the farm is 250,000 bottles per year.

Domaine Vico is conducted with the utmost respect for the environment and biodiversity. The particular mountainous geography generates operating constraints, but the ambition of its winemakers is to combine tradition and modernity, while respecting the grapes.

The wines of Domaine Vico

Domaine Vico offers 4 ranges of wines. They have in common to marry freshness and continental tension with a certain southern maturity, conferred by a very atypical terroir of mountains and valleys, and a very contrasting weather. The 4 ranges are:

Domaine Vico, in the 3 dresses;
Domaine Vico Collection, in the 3 dresses;
Miss Rose, rosé;
Clos Sulana, red or rosé.

Domaine Vico Rouge
Domaine Vico red Corsican wine is made from a blend of 70% Niellucciu, 20% Sciaccarellu and 10% Syrah.

The majority Nielluccio gives the wine a delicious finesse and a perfect balance. The wine is fruity, dominated by aromas of small red fruits. It is finely spiced, enhanced by licorice notes. Its mouth is supple and its fine tannins are tasty.

Domaine Vico Blanc

The Corsican wine Domaine Vico white is entirely composed of Vermentinu. This grape variety gives it an intense bouquet, where the aromas of fruits and white flowers are mixed. The mouth is voluptuous and always fresh.

Domain Vico Rosé

The Corsican wine Domaine Vico rosé is made up of a blend of 70% Niellucciu, 20% Grenache and 10% Sciaccarellu. Its nose is full of fruits, as well as its mouth where citrus fruits and red fruits dominate. The wine is smooth and harmonious, with some spicy notes at the end of the tasting.
