In a few words ...

On the banks of the Loire, you'll find not only chateaux, but also almost 400 km of vineyards. Whether semi-dry, sweet or syrupy, coteaux du layon wines have subtle aromas of honey and acacia acquired through over-ripening. In 2003, the first leaves appeared at the beginning of March, and by the end of May, flowering had begun, heralding a very early vintage. From August 01, France was hit by a drought, but on August 20, a storm put an end to the heatwave but blocked ripening. Merlot fared least well. The en primeur tastings announced an exceptional vintage.
