The winemaker

At 13, Emile Bodin father and mother orphan was raised by his aunt. At 18, a true autodidact, he began to renovate the adjoining vineyard, which like everywhere in France was devastated by phylloxera. In 1901, with his friend Albert soap he uses for his grafts, seedlings brought from Texas, whose roots are resistant to this pest aphid. They have been the precursors of a different wine, dry and mineral, which was able to take the richness of clay soil and limestone Cassis, previously known for its Muscat. Emile Bodin is the first in Provence to sell his wine bottles. The brand "Bodin" is then registered and recognized worldwide. In 1918, the property is complemented by the acquisition of Castle Fontblanche. Conservationist, in the noblest sense of the term, botanist, this "crazy in love Cassis" is also majoral Félibrige. He befriended the famous poet Frédéric Mistral, who describes his wine by dedicating this verse: "The bee has no sweeter honey, it shines like a diamond clear, smells rosemary, heather and the myrtle that cover our hills and dance in the glass. "On 15 May 1936 Cassis gets protecting the appellation contrôlée, making it one of the oldest, with Chateauneuf du Pape, Arbois, Monbazillac and Sauternes. After his death in 1969 at the age of 88, his daughter Madeleine, wife Bontoux naturally continues the work begun by his father. In 1973, his grand-son Jean-Jacques, began construction of a new winery, the most appropriate techniques.
