The winemaker

Pico Maccario and his brother Vitaliano run the 70-hectare eponymous winery, which extends around the town of Mombaruzzo in Piedmont. Pico Maccario's trademark is a rose, as the estate is covered with over 4,500 red roses (in front of each row). The vines are planted mainly with barbera, which in this region reaches optimum ripeness between 150 and 300 meters. The hillsides are at an ideal altitude, 180 meters, and face south. The clay soils give the grapes a fleshy, highly aromatic character.
