The vineyards of the vignerons de tautavel vingrau cover 980 hectares divided into numerous small plots, mainly located around tautavel and vingrau, but also in the neighboring villages of maury, opoul and montner. In 1996, the quality of the valley's wines was recognized by the creation of a new appellation with a commune name: côtes du roussillon villages tautavel. The wines are produced on clay-limestone and schist marl soils, with very low yields. The grape varieties are carignan noir, grenache noir, syrah and mourvèdre. The low-yielding plots, mainly worked by hand, produce powerful, very fruity wines with supple tannins and elegant structure.
