Ruffino was founded in 1877 in Pontassieve, near Florence, by two cousins, Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino. Their focus on growing quality grapes and exploiting the specific terroirs of their vineyards quickly made them a household name. Thanks to the care they took in the vineyard and cellar, the ruffino name quickly became synonymous with particularly clean, well-balanced wines. After the Second World War, ruffino acquired Villa di Montemasso, its first estate in the Chianti Classico region. Thanks to the acquisition of other wineries in Tuscany's best-known sub-regions, today ruffino can offer chianti classico, brunello di montalcino and vino nobile di montepulciano under a single brand, while the wineries behind it continue to exist. Today, Ruffino is one of the world's best-known wineries, representing the consistency and quality of Chianti and Tuscany.
