The winemaker

Exceptional wines and uniqueness are designed there. At 300 meters above sea level on the terraces of Larzac, the area offers breathtaking views with a landscape influenced by the volcanic past of the region. Since Fall 2012, the castle La Sauvageonne is grown biodynamic. Chateau La Sauvageonne is the latest acquisition of Gerard Bertrand. Acquired in November 2011, Château La Sauvageonne is located northwest of Montpellier, near the village of Saint-Jean-de-Blaquière the gates of the Causse du Larzac. This castle is a legendary site. His exhibition, its location and its exceptional terroir gives it a unique character. Unique wines are produced on this fabulous terroir: red, white and rosé. Located 300 meters above sea level, the landscape is heavily influenced by the volcanic past of the region. The red color reminiscent of the Grand Canyon North American and give a Vulcan look around. The rocks in basements have been metamorphosed by the heat of the lava after the hot spot. The traces of volcanism are visible in several places: Cap d'Agde (old volcano crater) or basalt Salagou which are a few kilometers from the property The soil is composed of pebbles from sandstone and shale in the first 30 cm and then a clay horizon. Soil acidity affects the vegetation profile that comes from the bush. The basement of the region is rich in water but also aluminum or bauxite. The ruffes that make up much of the land parcels, are rich in minerals. On this land, we find very ancient olive trees, moreover, the name "Blaquières" of Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquière mean "benches" on which were installed olive trees. The climate is relatively wet due to rain from the Larzac plateau that regularly affect the plots of the estate. This combination of warm temperatures and regular rain allows Grenache grow perfectly and achieve annual full maturity. If the Château Sauvageonne was a color: Red, with reference to the volcanic history If the Château Sauvageonne was a character: adventurous, independent, free as Indiana Jones.
