Château Tour des Gendres

The Château Tour des Gendres is an estate in the South West of France. It is located in the vicinity of Bergerac, east of Bordeaux. Rich of a great family history, the domain evolves in the hands of passionate people and the wines feel it in the generosity with which they are endowed. The unique terroir of the region allows the creation of unique vintages that are the pride of their winemakers.

A bit of Italy in the heart of the Dordogne

The story of Château Tour des Gendres is a family tale that is not insignificant. Indeed, the De Conti family, settled on the estate since 1925, is Italian. It was Vincenzo de Conti who settled there at the beginning of the 20th century, accompanied by his wife and children. It is then an agricultural epic that begins for the family. Primo, Vincenzo's son, took over the estate alongside his wife, and it was in the 1980s that the Château Tour des Gendres estate really took off under the impetus of Luc, the third generation. In 1984, the first replanting of the vineyard began and it is thanks to this that the first red wine Château Tour des Gendres was born in 1986.

The house gradually extends its range of wines without ceasing to innovate in the techniques of wine making. Indeed, the first tests in organic farming are made in 1994 and lead in 2005 to the certification of the 52 hectares of the property. In the same way, other fruitful experiments were carried out on the estate such as the realization of vintages without sulphur or aged in amphorae. Avant-garde and committed winemakers, there is no doubt that the De Conti family still has a long way to go!

A terroir between technique and innovation

Very attached to the notion of terroir, the De Conti family has taken to heart the preservation of its working environment and the symbiosis of the different elements making up said terroir. From the soil to the exposure, through the climate, the grape varieties and the work of man, nothing is left to chance. It is for this reason that Luc commissioned various organizations in 1999 to conduct a geological study of the estate in order to better understand the ecosystem in which his vines grow. From there, the grape varieties were adapted to take advantage of the best characteristics of the soils and reveal the best aromas of the grapes. The vineyard is also maintained in such a way as to limit yields and promote the concentration of flavors. Finally, once in the winery, the oenological interventions are meticulous and carried out sparingly to give the wine time and space to reveal its finest secrets.

Wines with diverse and varied aromas

Château Tour des Gendres offers its wine lovers a wide range of wines, from red to white to sparkling. Most are vinified according to the specifications of the Bergerac and Côtes de Bergerac appellations. The variety of their vintages allows to explore the diversity of their terroir for all tastes: robust or light, fruity or spicy, fresh or structured, all taste buds will be satisfied!
