Just 10 kilometers west of reims, écueil is a historic pinot noir village, "a fine pinot that became famous in the 1960s, while the surrounding villages were planted mainly with meunier", explains frédéric savart. He took over his father's vineyard with passion, and now makes young, aromatic, fruity champagnes that are taut and nuanced in their varietal expression. Fermentations in demi-muid are perfectly controlled, and the distinction of the bubbles creates juices that are refined in finesse, punctuated by fine notes of controlled oxidation. superb! Beautiful, fine bubbles, it seems like a vintage (if you don't like old champagnes, you might not like it), but it's still fruity (notes of old cherries for me), but it's so well mastered that I think it's superb!
Let's talk about the price now... a little expensive, but still "affordable" for a Champagne.
