Situated on the illustrious "terroir du véron" already sung by Rabelais, Château de Coulaine is a very old family estate whose winegrowing tradition has been unbroken since 1300. From time immemorial, vines have enjoyed sinking their roots into the land surrounding the château, which was rebuilt in the 15th century. In 1988, Etienne de Bonnaventure undertook the expansion of the vineyard, which now covers 12 hectares and is organically farmed. This personal choice is fully in line with the ongoing quest for a harmonious balance between tradition and modernity. Since January 2017, Etienne's son Jean has been at the helm of the estate, continuing to improve the quality of the wines. Marie madeleine de vassé, marquise de la rochebousseau, better known in the region as "la diablesse", was full of contrasts: a pretty woman living under louis xv, she made a name for herself with her fiery but not unkind temperament, her habit of dressing up as a man to ride around her lands on horseback and...the murder of a brother-in-law with a shotgun! Fortunately, this ancestor already had children: the winegrower is descended from him.
« Datant du XIVe siècle, ce domaine est désormais cultivé en biologique. Dense et richement fruité, c'est l'un des meilleurs vins de la propriété, riche en tanins qui complètent les saveurs de cerise mûre et de cassis. L'acidité encore fraîche du vin suggère un vieillissement supplémentaire, alors attendez jusqu'en 2020.»
