Appellation Pouilly-Loché

The Pouilly-Loché AOC, a prime location for chardonnay

The Pouilly-Loché appellation is located in the Mâconnais vineyards, more precisely 5 kilometres from Mâcon. Its 33 hectares are located only in the commune of Loché, and includes various lieux-dits such as Les Quatre Saisons, En Chantonne and Aux Barres.

Although the appellation was only obtained in 1940, vines have been present in the region since Roman times, and the vineyard developed thanks to the presence of the monks of Cluny. Cellars and wineries dating from the 17th century have been found.

Only the chardonnay is grown in the Pouilly-Loché appellation, it finds a continental climate, ideal as it allows good sunshine in autumn. The plots face east, and the soils are schistose or clay-limestone. All the conditions are there for the Chardonnay to reveal all its aromas and elegance.

Tasting Pouilly-Loché white wine

The colour of Pouilly-Loché is golden, crossed with green reflections. It becomes amber with the years. The nose diffuses scents of white flowers, notably with hawthorn and acacia, of citrus with lemon and grapefruit, and finally of peach.

As it ages, Pouilly-Loché develops scents of pear, quince, apricot and roasted dried fruit such as almond and hazelnut. One can even find gingerbread. The palate is opulent, more or less mineral depending on the place of production, and endowed with a good aromatic persistence.

Pouilly-Loché Blanc is best enjoyed with smoked salmon, river fish, shrimp or other shellfish, egg rolls or sushi. It also goes very well with poultry and sweet and sour dishes, such as pork with pineapple. Finally, for cheeses, it is best to choose goat's cheese or Beaufort.
